In Math this week, we worked with equations. We learned that the equals sign can come first (10=6+4). We learned about balancing addition equations (3+8=5+7). We learned to figure out if the equation balances and is true or it doesn't balance and it is false (6+7=8+5...false they do not balance because they are not equal). We even used balances to make the point! We also filled in missing addends to make balanced equations (___+8=9 + 5) (15=___-6).
In Writing this week, we started learning about writing a nonfiction How To. We brainstormed ideas for How To topics. We reviewed transition words to help us organize our thinking. We started thinking of what materials someone would need to do our How To. We will continue this next week. Of course, sharing our writing and helping each other make our writing better is an important part of writer's workshop.
Next week our specials will be: PE, Music, Library, Library, and Art . Wednesday is an early release day.
We have some friends with runny noses, coughs, and sneezes. I know there is a "bug" running through the high school. Remember the policy that if your child is running a fever or threw up during the night or before school, they need to stay home and recover. They need to be fever free and throw up free for 24 hours. As a mom, I know how hard it is to have a child sick but if they come to school sick, they are miserable and aren't learning. They are also spreading the germs.
We had some warm days but it is still winter so EVERYONE needs to have a coat EVERY DAY! If it is warm enough, we will go outside without them but it is usually chilly (if not down right cold) at our first recess.
I am gone on Friday for a gymnastic's competition. Have a wonderful weekend! Mrs. C
