We also worked on reading real words and making new words out of old words.
Wow! What a wonderful start to the new year! Everyone came back with great attitudes and ready to learn! In MATH, we are working on solving addition and subtraction word problems. I am so pleased at how everyone is picking this up! Last week, we worked on adding to problems. This week we are working on taking from problems. We circle the important numbers. Write an equation, Write a sentence to solve (or ______ cookies). Draw our start line. Then we draw the boxes that fit with the numbers. We solve for a letter or shape. We check to see if our answer makes sense. I have short movies if you check out Math and Problem Solving. We have even starting groups and rotations in math! In Writing this week, we have been reviewing writing Narratives. We introduced Transition Words. We are focusing on the conventions of sentences beginning with a capital letter, ending with punctuation, and capitalizing I and names. We worked on writing a "small moment". We worked on using a partner to help us focus our writing. In Shared Reading, we've been focusing on story elements. We have been looking at characters and thinking about how characters are on the outside and on the inside. We created a foldable that helped us focus on this skill. For Spelling this week, we practiced words with -ck and short vowels. Next week our words and sentences will be: with, them, this, much, check, chop, their, they. Their black dog runs with them. Can they chop this big log? We also worked on reading real words and making new words out of old words. Welcome to Macy Brunner! We are so glad you are a part of our class!
