One of the fun things we did this week was use Makers Space in the library to make our "Awesome Thing." Students had to plan their thing, make a materials list, collect supplies, and then work to create it. Then they had to evaluate how well they did in their creation. Thank you Mrs. Cohee for your help in this! We had a Popsicle, chalk, and soccer celebration for our last warm fuzzy. We have gotten so many compliments at lunch, and at specials. I'm so proud of my students! We had an awesome time at Field Day! With the rain, we had field day inside. Coach A really set up a fun day for us. Thank you to all the parent & grandparent helpers! We could not do it without you. I feel so blessed with the students and parents I had this year! I loved how supporting and encouraging the students were with each other. I loved that they were quick to find things that others were doing well and compliment them. I loved that when someone was feeling down, the class would work to lift them up again. This class was full of eager learners! They worked so hard and I see such growth and progress! I know they will shine in second grade! Thank you so much for sharing your treasures with me this year. I am truly blessed! Have a safe and wonderful summer! Mrs. C :-)

Wow, this was a fast week! In MATH, we have been working on adding and subtracting within 100! This involves decomposing numbers to make it easier to add and subtract. It can be intimidating to try to add 54 +8 but if we think 8 +4 = 12 then we can add 50 +12. I was so impressed with how well we picked this up and how eager everyone was to be challenged with "harder" problems! In Jaguar time, we worked in small groups to reteach and reassess earlier learning targets. I love when I see students work and not give up until they get it!! In COMMUNICATION ARTS, we have really been focused on showing what we know! We've been working so hard on our Animal Reports in Science, Shared Reading, and Writing. Students worked on researching an animal. Then they turned facts into sentences. Then they created a power point about their animal. Then they presented the power point to the class! I did make copies to hang in the hall so I hope you had a chance to look them over during the Art & Writer's Museum. Students can access our Google Classroom at home ( our class code is: joa85w4). Paper copies will come home in our Writing Binders next week. Mrs. Cohee worked with the class on National Symbols and personal symbols. They created a class book and individual books on the National Symbols. You can use a QR reader on your phone to access this wonderful work. We will not have Spelling Words next week. We will do review over some tricky words. We will be doing a cleaning up and sending things home next Thursday so students need to have room in their backpacks or have sacks. Several friends have library books out. Those friends have forms in their boxes today. Please return the books or send in money to pay for them. Field Day is next Friday. I'm sending the field day tshirts that were order home today. Please check the size. We are asking students not to wear them until next Friday. Our specials next week will be: Art, Music, PE, Art. Friday is an early release and Field Day.
Have a wonderful weekend! Mrs.C We had another busy week. In MATH we are working on adding and subtracting within 100. We are decomposing numbers to add and subtract, adding and subtracting tens, and adding ones to a 2 digit number. In COMMUNICATION ARTS we continue to work on our Animal Reports in Shared Reading and Writing. We are making power points of our animals that each student is researching. In Large Group PTR, we are reviewing multiple syllable words and instant syllables and will take a test on them Friday. I have also started Guided Reading Groups. I'm so proud at the hard work everyone has had learning their vowel sounds. In Spelling, our focus will be on -y at the end of a word. Our words will be: study, city, story, thirty, sleepy, baby, many, and very. The baby is very sleepy. How many cars are in the big city? I want to thank you for making Teacher Appreciation Week so amazing. I am so blessed with my students and my parents. I LOVE the blanket! Thank you for all the treats and gifts! I loved the notes too! Thank you!! Our specials this week are: Music, PE, Art, Music, and PE. All Library books are due this week.
Please return baggy books this week too. Our schedule will return to normal on Tuesday. I can't believe we have 2 weeks left of school! Remember that the last day, May 20, is an early release and Field Day. I know notes went home for Field Day volunteers. Have a wonderful week! Mrs. C Time flies when you are busy learning and having fun! Where did April go? In MATH this week, we worked on fractions. We worked on knowing if shapes were partitioned equally or unequally. We divided shapes into equal shares (halves and quarters), and described how a shape was divided into equal shares (__out of __ shares). We will begin our last big learning goal: I can add and subtract within 100. Since we have been doing Math Talks, I know the class will rock this learning goal! In COMMUNICATION ARTS, we have been pretty busy too! In SHARED READING/SCIENCE we have been classifying animals by external parts. We have been using Pebblego.com to research an animals from the 5 types of animals we learned about (mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, and reptiles). Then we chose an animals to learn more about. We will be writing an information report about that animal except we will use Google Slides instead of paper. You'll be able to look at these at the Art and Writers Museum in May. In PTR, I have been doing F&P reading assessments. I have some impressive readers with great comprehension. Some students are reading books with a small group. We also did a fluency assessment. For SPELLING next week, we will have 2 syllable words with er. Our words will be: number, over, after, never, under, paper, mother, and water. The water is in a blue paper cup. Mother put the number one on my shirt. Our specials next week will be: PE, Art, Music, PE, and Art. We will go to the library on Wednesday. All library books are due back next week!
I will be gone Friday for a final (hopefully) concussion specialist visit for Sarah. Have a great week! Mrs. C |
