We had such a busy and productive week! In Math, we continue to work on Continuing the Counting Sequence to 120. Several students have colored in stars in their learning goal binders for counting to 120 and for recognizing numbers to 120 (out of order). We also have learned new math games. We started our flash card baggies and several friends have already started turning in math fluency sheets! In the photos, we are doing a "scoot" looking for the missing number on a number line. In writing this week, we discussed what we are good at. We read Jack's Talent. Then we came up with things we can do, we have, and we like. We wrote a rough draft, edited, wrote our final draft, and illustrated it. Our final project is hanging in the hall! In handwriting, we also worked on Ii. For Social Studies, we continue to work on laws and rules. We read a story about a monster at school and then illustrated and wrote rules that the monster could follow to be successful. We are working on building stamina when we read with our browsing baskets. We are also practicing using our centers/stations. I have been able to do some Sight Word testing since we have worked so well at our stations! We have been working hard on 'what's your name e' and 'defender c!' in PTR! Remember, no school on Monday. Our specials will be, DL, Art, PE, and Music. We will go to the library again on Thursday. We got to check out 2 books today. Thank you to all parents that were able to attend Parent Info Night! Have a safe and wonderful weekend! Mrs. C.

What a busy but great week! We've been busy learning about each other, building community, and learning expectations. I am so pleased at how well this class works together! In MATH this week, we are jumping right in on learning goals! We are training our brains to substitize (recognize patterns in number...think of a domino. Recognizing that 6 dots equals 6 every time so we don't have to count the dots over and over again.). We are looking at numbers and patterns to 120. We have been looking at recognizing that 7 tens is 70 and using 10 frames to help us organize sets of tens. We've been reviewing our vowel sounds and building vowel town. I am impressed at how much everyone remembers their vowel sounds! We are also practicing what our center rotations will look like when we start small groups. We also reviewed "what's your name, e?" He helps vowels say their names. We also starting putting together our learning goal/portfolio binders. We will use these to keep track of our learning goals and writing. These will go home at the end of the year. This will be a work in progress because we will be adding to these all year. Next week, our specials will be: Counselor, Art, PE, and Music. We check books out for the first time on Thursday! There is NO SCHOOL on Friday for professional development. I am looking forward to sharing information with you all at Parent Information Night on Monday. First grade will need in the library. We have 2 sessions, 5:30 to 6, and 6:30 to 7. I hope to see you all there!
Wow! What a great first week of school! The time flew by as we worked on building a community of learners, practiced expectations and procedures, and learned new learning games. We even did a pre-assessment on our first math learning goal: I can extend the counting process to 120. We also did some Pathways to Reading Assessments too! In the slide show, you will see us working on math games, writing, working on writing. Just part of our every day life in first grade.
We read a lot of books. We did our own David Goes to School project. You will see that posted in our hallway. Our specials next week are: Music Library, Art, PE, and Music. This Saturday Night is PTA Family Night at the Harrisonville Pool. A note went home yesterday. Don't forget to send in snack each day. Please do not send in candy. Students may have water bottles. If your phone number, email, or address changes, please let the office know as soon as possible. Don't forget to sign up for Remind 101 and to automatically receive this blog each week. Have a great weekend! |
