Have a fantastic weekend! Mrs. C.
My goodness, time flies when you are learning! This week in MATH, we are continuing to add and subtract fluently to 10 and add and subtract to 20. We've been working on related facts (2+3=5, so 3+2=5 and 5-2=3. and 5-3=2) and adding three numbers. I am seeing such good progress. Some friends are still struggling with subtraction. Fortunately, these two learning goals are year long goals so everyone has time to reach them. We worked on fact family houses (related facts) today so those will come home. In COMMUNICATION ARTS,we've also been full of learning! In SHARED READING, we've been working on Asking and Answering Questions before, during, and after reading. We have been learning how to Close Read and learning the strategies to help us find what is important and the answers to the questions. You will see passages that the students color to help them match key words in the questions to the answer in the passage. In WRITING, we are working on writing narratives. We are trying to write beginnings, middle, middle, middle, and ends. We are working on writing good sentences. We are rereading what we write to edit and revise. We are also helping me edit and revise what I write. Students also work together to reread and revise what they write. Students wrote about something they are good at and those will be hung in the hallway. I do see nice progress in writing! In SPELLING, this week we did lesson 1 words with short vowels. This was a "practice" week so student won't stress. We've added working on Spelling City on our tablets to help us practice our words. We won't have spelling next week due to the short week. In SMALL GROUP PTR, students are working on spotting the vowel in words, reading real words, and segmenting and writing words. Next week is a short week. Our specials will be: Music, PE, Art. We will go to the library on Wednesday just to check out books. Wednesday is an early release and there is no school on Thursday and Friday. Conferences are Wednesday and Thursday and I am so looking forward to meeting with you to talk about your child's growth and progress!
Have a fantastic weekend! Mrs. C.

For a short week, this has been a busy week!! In MATH this week, we continued to work on adding and subtracting to 20. We worked on making a ten. We worked on adding 3 numbers. and worked on using strategies like counting on, making a ten, finding the double or near double, and using a part part whole mat instead of our fingers. We have been working in guided math groups and rotating through a small group, independent practice, tablet time (Moby Max), and a related math game. This week in COMMUNICATION ARTS,we have also been busy. In SHARED READING, we are working on close reading with asking and answering questions before, during, and after reading. We used crayons to highlight questions and then went back into the text to find the answers and then colored the answer to match the question. In WRITING, we continue to work on writing narratives. We are doing BMMME to add to our 5 finger stories. We are also working on going back and rereading our stories to enhance our stories. We look at word choice, descriptive words, capital letters, punctuation, and using our vowel/consonant sounds to spell out the words. I see so much improvement in our writing! In SMALL GROUPS (PTR), we have started our rotations with small group times. Students rotate through their small group to work on Pathways to Reading skills, station rotations, and using the tablet for Writing Wizard and Reading/Listening to stories. Next week in LARGE GROUP PTR, we will begin to do Spelling. Our words next week will be: can, big, man, hand, did, had, his, and the. The sentences will be: The big man had a fat cat. His hand got cut on the can. We will begin to add Spelling City activities to our tablet time to help us practice and master our words. Soon we will start our Google Classroom and students will write their sentences and then add images to their sentences! It is a good time for us to remind our children that they are not allowed to go onto any app that I have not directed them to go. I hear "but I can do that at home" but that will not be okay here. Please remind your child about the computer usage agreement you signed at registration. Our schedule next week is: PE, Art, Music, PE, and Art. Library is on Wednesday. I think we will have our warm fuzzy jar filled by Tuesday so next Friday we will have a warm fuzzy party in the afternoon. So students can bring an extra snack, slippers or crazy socks, and a stuffed animal that can sit on their desk without taking up the entire desk (so a small one).
Our school is collecting canned good (note home today). The haunted hallway is coming soon (a note home today) on October 20. Don't forget to sign up for Parent Conferences. In MATH this week, we've been working on adding and subtracting through 10 and 20. We are looking at paying attention to the sign and using strategies (doubles, near doubles, part/part/whole, counting forward/back, fist it) and checking to be sure the answer makes sense. We have been practicing our math rotations. Students meet in a small group for instruction, then go for independent practice, and then work on math on tablets. In COMMUNICATION ARTS, we have also been working hard! In SHARED READING, we've been working on asking and answering questions (before, during, after). In WRITING, we've been working on 5 finger stories. We are working on adding details. We've also been focusing on capital letters and punctuation. In SMALL GROUP PTR, we've been practicing our rotations and stations so that we can start small groups on Monday.
