In PTR small groups, almost everyone has mastered their vowel sounds and most are independently using their skills when they read, write, and spell. We have 4 groups that are in guided reading and 1 group working to master the Screech Guides and Vowels. I will begin doing end of the (sniff sniff) F&P reading tests. This checks fluency (pace of reading), accuracy (reading the words correctly), and comprehension (understanding and discussing what is read). We want all students to read at an H or above by the end of the year with good comprehension.
We have our school Carnival tonight. Thank you to everyone that contributed to our Family Movie Night basket. This basket will be a part of our silent auction during the carnival.
Permission slips went home this week for our field trip to Deanna Rose Farmstead. We will go on Tuesday, May 12 and we will take our lunches and eat there (weather permitting). We ask students to wear tennis shoes and if they want to feed the animals they need to bring 4 quarters. I drew 4 parent names (and 1 alternate) and these are the 4 parents selected: Mrs. Bauernfeind, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Nussbeck, and Mrs. Terry. If you don't have a background check on file, a slip will go home that needs to be completed and returned asap. Students need to bring a disposable sack lunch/drink with them. I will send out reminders as time gets closer.
Several friends have had library books out for a very long time. The library will be getting ready for inventory so we will only go back 2 more times. ALL LIBRARY BOOKS MUST BE RETURNS OR PAID FOR. I love that my class loves loves loves to read!
Also I will be stopping baggy books soon. Several friends have not returned books in a long while. If your child has lost the book, you will need to send in $6.
With the changeable weather, students really need to have a jacket with them. It can be nippy in the morning.
Have a terrific weekend! I hope to see you at the carnival tonight! Mrs. C.
