Mrs. C
We had another fabulous week this week! Thank you to the parents that made our field trip so fun! We had a fantastic time! In MATH this week, we started working on using subtraction strategies. We learned how to subtract 10 and tricks to subtract 9. We also worked together on some fun learning games. This week in Writing, we worked on our new opinion piece about our favorite Thanksgiving foods! I see such growth in our writing. We should be finished with this writing next week. We also are working with third and fourth grade friends on some math and sight words during Jaguar time. We were the first class that Christopher the Elf visited! Next week is our short week with school only on Monday and Tuesday. We will have Counselor and Art for specials. Don't forget to send in snack. Everyone needs coats that fasten, gloves, and hats/scarves. No school next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for our Thanksgiving Break! Have a wonderful weekend!!

Even though this was a short week, it was jam packed with learning! In Math this week, we worked on adding three numbers. Our strategy is to circle the two numbers we want to add first, and then add them. Then add the last number to that sum. We also started our subtraction part of adding and subtracting to 20. Our first strategy we learned, was subtracting using a number line. We also added to our math journal and learned and played some math games. In Writing, we worked on writing our weekend update (a personal narrative 2.1) using the conventions we have been working on (sentences begin with a capital letter, I is always capitalized, and ending punctuation plus using our PTR skills to spell: 5.2). We also worked on turning Blah sentences into Wow sentences by adding descriptive words. We also brainstormed Thanksgiving foods for our next opinion piece. In Shared Reading, we began working on recognizing story elements. We looked at main characters, setting (when and where the story takes place), and the problem and solution. We also did a pre-assessment. We also watched a Pebblego about Veteran's Day and made a Veteran's Day booklet. Our field trip is next Tuesday, November 18. Students signed up to let us know if they were bringing lunch from home, or needed a school lunch. Don't forget to send the lunch! Thank you to these parents that were selected (and thank you to the parents that volunteered {I wish I could take you all!}: Mrs. Williams, Mrs, Boehmer, Mrs. Boxberger, and Mrs. Nussbeck.
Our specials next week are: Music, Digital Learning, Art, PE, and Music. We check out books on Thursday so please return books by then. Some friends are forgetting tennis shoes on PE day. Wearing the tennis shoes helps us participate in PE in a safer way than wearing dress shoes. Feel free to send in the tennis shoes to change in and out of so that PE is fun and safe for all! Some students are forgetting snacks. I try to have extra snack on hand but more and more are forgetting. Don't forget, students need warms coats that they can fasten, gloves, and hats. Have a great weekend!!! Mrs. C We have had a busy week! In Math, we've been learning addition strategies for adding on with 10 and 9. Next week we will add 3 numbers. We will take a formative on addition and then start subtraction strategies. We have also been on the mini computers working on our math lessons on XtraMath. You received login information at the conference. We have been learning opinion writing. This is different from our narrative writing (stories). We brainstormed about our favorite ice cream. We came up with reasons and then we wrote topic and concluding sentences. For our final draft, we worked on return sweep and neatness. Our ice cream papers are on display in the hall. Of course, we also wrote in our November Journals. We've started a reading notebook for independent reading. We've been working on the comprehension strategies of Schema (making connections), visualizing, and asking questions about what we read! I love how eager they are to stretch their brains! In PTR small groups and large groups, we have been working on spotting the vowel and 2 vowels go walking. Groups are crossing the river and climbing ladders (fun assessments not dangerous activities!!) like crazy! Wow, have they made a lot of progress!! I'd like to welcome our new classmate: Joelene Kee! I really love how welcoming and helpful the class has been!! Next week is a short but busy week! We have an early release on Thursday and no school with a PD day on Friday! We have Digital Learning, Art, PE, and Music next week.
Our field trip is November 18 and I had a large group of volunteers to draw from. Thank you to everyone. These mom's have been selected to ride the bus with us and go to see Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Jake's mom, Braden's mom, Carmen's mom, and Taylor's mom.. If you can't go, please let me know so I can make new arrangements!!! Have a fantastic weekend! Please send jackets/coats that your child can fasten. Mrs. C |
