I have a pair of boys tennis shoes (Jake???) and a boys gray zipper jacket with line green trim in my room. I will be at TC on Friday. After that, I will take them to the office so you can get them.
Have a safe and blessed summer! Mrs. C.

What a wonderful week and a wonderful school year! I am so very excited at the growth and progress everyone made this year! I know that some learning targets are hard, but everyone tried. This week we finished up adding and subtracting to 100. We also did some reteaching and reassessing. Of course, we also did some math learning games. This week we finished up our Animal Research. We shared our reports. I am so totally impressed with the effort and the outcome. Please take the time to look at these impressive reports! We also did some STEM activities. We worked on building structures, problem solving, and working together. We also planned and then created without speaking! (that was tough!) Field day was so much fun even though we were all a muddy wet mess! I loved how everyone cheered each other on! I wanted to say how much I loved teaching this class this year! I was blessed to have such a caring and dedicated class! Everyone was so eager to learn! Thank you for sharing your children with me this year! I know they will be awesome second graders!

We have had a very busy week in MATH! We worked hard on our last math learning target: I can add and subtract to 100! We used a hundreds chart to add and subtract tens, we used mental math to add and subtract by tens, we added a one digit number to a 2 digit number, and we even introduced regrouping. Good thing we worked so hard on knowing our math facts and place value! This week we continued working on our animal research project. This is part of Science, Writing, and Shared Reading. We used the computer and library books to find out information on habitats, life cycles, adaptations, food/diet, and interesting facts. We wrote a rough draft and edited it. We created a book with a cover, table of contents, chapters with a picture or map, and a glossary. Boy did this class work hard!! Most are finished and their books are on display in the hallway. We will finish Monday and share our books. I am so proud of the hard work and effort. I am also proud that several students were super helpers with their classmates!! Students have also been keeping their learning goal binders/portfolios up to date. They have been filling in stars and adding writing samples. These binders will come home next Thursday. This week, we also took the SRI reading test. I am proud that so many students followed directions and took their time. I hope the ones that rushed, will remember to take their time next year.
We had a great time at our field trip! Thank you to the parents that helped us have such a fun time!! We have had another busy and productive week! In MATH we have been working on our last big learning target: I can use my knowledge of place value to add and subtract to 100. We have worked on adding and subtracting 10s with a 2 digit number (23+10, 57-10), adding and subtracting using a hundreds chart, and adding and subtracting multiples of tens (52-20, 47+30). We will continue to work on this target next week. In Jaguar time, we are in small groups to reteach and reassess prior learning targets. In WRITING, SCIENCE, and SHARED READING we continue to work on our Animal Research project. We read and searched on line for important details. We chose important details on habitat, diet, life cycles, adaptations, and fun facts. Then we worked on our rough draft. A few friends have even started their final draft. We will add text features to our final draft (pictures, glossary, bold text, and table of contents). The class has been working so hard! We've also been learning about how habitats influences adaptations. In PTR SMALL GROUP and LARGE GROUP, we will begin assessing next week. I will give assessments on vowel sounds, spelling multiple syllable words, reading nonsense words, and F&P reading/comprehension assessments. I've started the F&Ps this week and I am impressed at my great readers. Plus EVERYONE has passes all first grade sight words!! WOOT WOOT! Our field trip to Deanna Rose Farmstead is next Tuesday, May 12. We will leave at nine. They need to bring a sack lunch and drink unless they signed up for a school sack lunch. Students need to wear tennis shoes and weather appropriate clothing. They need to bring 4 quarters (not pennies not dollars, quarters!!) if they want to feed the animals. Thank you to Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Means, Mrs. Nussbeck, and Mrs. Terry for being brave and volunteering to ride the bus with us! THANK YOU for making Teacher Appreciation week so wonderful!! I cannot believe the year is nearly over and my babies are ready for second grade (sniff sniff). Thank you for your support this year!! We've been fortunate to have high school tutors this year. Mason's last day will be Tuesday. Have a great weekend!! Mrs. C.
What another wonderful week! We certainly got our learning on! In MATH this week, we worked on fractions. We decided if shapes were divided into equal parts or unequal parts. We decided how many parts were shaded out of a whole part (3 out of 4 were shaded). We divided shapes into halves and fourths. We discovered that if you get a fourth of a cookie, you get less than if you get a half of a cookie! Next week will begin adding and subtracting to 100. Boy is the class excited about that!!! In Writing, Science/Shared Reading this week, we have been working hard on researching our mammal for our Animal Report. We spent time in the computer lab, on the computers in the classroom, reading books, using post it notes to tab important information from the books. Now were are looking at all that we have learned and picking the information that we think is most important. The next step is writing the rough draft. Next week we will continue the rough draft, work on editing and revising, and finally publish our books with our own text features! Can you guess whose class is ready for second grade (Mine that's who!)? In SPELLING this week we worked on ai and ay words. We also reviewed common nouns, proper nouns, verbs, and adjectives. I am proud that most everyone can tell what part of speech a word is. Next week, our words will be words with 2 syllables. Number, over, after, never, under, paper, mother, and water. The water is in a blue paper cup. Mother put the number one on my shirt.
Our specials next week are: counselor, art, PE, music, and DL. We check out books for the last time this Thursday. We have several people that have not returned their library books in a long time. Please get those in. The librarians need to begin to inventory and see who will need to pay for the missing books. We will go to the library on the 14th, but we won't check out. Our field trip is May 12. Thanks to everyone for getting in the permission slips! Thanks to everyone that honored their pledges for our APEX Fun Run. If you haven't taken care of that, please do so. If you have not returned the baggy books, please do so, or send in $6 (in cash please) so that book can be replaced. I am shocked that we only have 3 weeks of school. I guess it is true that time does fly when you are having fun. It truly has been a joy to teach this class! I know their second grade teachers will be so pleased with their cheerful and positive attitudes and hard work! Have a fantastic weekend! Mrs. C. |
