With our snow and ice, this is going to be a blog about what we have been doing since we've returned. In MATH, we have been working on reading, writing, and counting to 120. Some of us are doing this to 999. Some are even working on numbers above 1000. We are also working on place value. We are identifying tens and ones. We are also finding the value of numbers (83= 80+3 so the value of the 8 is 80). In COMMUNICATION ARTS, we have also been pretty busy. In SCIENCE, we worked on exploring with sound and light. We made plans on making an instrument. We went to Makers Space in the library to collect items that we used to build instruments. We came up with some great instruments! In SOCIAL STUDIES, we are working on learning about Famous Americans. We used Pebble Go to research Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington. Then we used that research to write an information piece in WRITING. We wrote topic sentences, 3 detail sentences, and a conclusion. Then we drew a picture of our famous American. Some friends are still finishing up this big project. Those that have finished, have their work on display in the hall way! In PATHWAYS to Reading Large Group, we have been working on our Screech Guides. We've worked on when to use defender D (ge/dge), defender T (ch/tch), -y at the end of a word, and two vowels go walking (ai, ay, ea, ee, oa). For SPELLING NEXT WEEK: will, off, spell, miss, pass, sniff, call, small. Dad must not miss his call. Which small pup will Bill get? For SHARED READING, we have been working on text features in nonfiction texts. We will continue that and add finding main topic and supporting details. Next week, our specials will be: Art, Music, PE, Art, and Music. We go to the library on Wednesday. Please check with your child to see if they need supplies (some friends have used up/lost markers, crayons, dry erase markers, and erasers.) With the weather, we pay attention to the temperature and wind chill. If the wind chill/temperature is high enough, we do go outside. It is important that everyone always has their coat and gloves We have a new high school tutor, Grant Ardito. I had Grant in second grade. Our HS tutors work with students in the classroom. Have a great weekend!!! Mrs. C PS TC night at MEGA is coming up next weekend. Sarah is working that night so she will be there.
