Wow, what another great week! Today the Student Leadership Team from the High School came to Timber Creek to share a great message (and fun too) about how we all can be leaders! I loved seeing some of our former Timber Creek students shining in High School. I told this class that I can't wait to see them in the SLT in high school that comes back to TC! In MATH this week we continue to work on the learning target I can add and subtract within 20. We focused on related facts (2+4=6, 4+2=6) and Fact Families (2+4=6, 4+2=6, 6-2=4. 6-4=2). We continue to work on using strategies (part/part/whole, doubles, near doubles, counting on, counting back, number lines) to be fluent and automatic. We created fact family houses/castles/computer games. This week in Communication Arts we were busy too! In PTR, we worked on segmenting and writing words with x (fox, text). We continued to practice saying vowel town on our own (doing a great job), explaining defender c (most of us have this skill!), and explaining and using 'what's your name e?' (makes the vowel say its name) (some are still working to master this). In Shared Reading, we've been working on the learning targets of: I can use comprehension strategies to ask and answer questions and I can use key details and story elements. Our focus this week, has been on the main character. Good readers can use clues from the story to describe a character (She was mad because her brother broke her toy.) We've started using an Interactive Reading Journal so we can have a handy resource. This week in Writing, we've worked on identifying nouns, Proper Nouns, and adjectives. We've started using adjectives and specific nouns to turn Blah sentences into WOW sentences.
