We have had a very productive week! In Math we are working on Place Value. We took our pretest to see what we already know and what we need to learn about Place Value. Students have a learning goal sheet that they will color the stars as they meet the targets that help them master the goal. Students are working in small groups to reach the targets that they need to master. They all have packets to work on to reach those goals. They will be also using manipulatives and learning games to help them reach their goals! I also sent home a sheet that talks about vocabulary and has a game that can be played at home. We have also been working hard on instant syllables and special vowel sounds in Pathways to Reading. We have learned all of the Screech Guides too! Students should be able to independently use the guides and instant syllables. Eleven students have passed their vowel ladders and have taken the F & P reading test and are in guided reading groups!! Many students have also passed their Gold Medal in Sight Words and are now working on reading Fry Phrases. Keep practicing at home! We haven't had spelling words this week while we work on these important skills. We won't have words when we return from Spring Break so that we can assess our PTR skills. In Shared Reading, Writing, and Social Studies, we have been learning and researching National Symbols. Students are using Pebblego.com and library books to learn more about these symbols. They are taking notes and will chose a symbol to focus on and write more about. Thank you to the parents that made our spring party so much fun!! FYI: Next week is spring break. Please have a safe and fun week off. When we return, our specials will be: Music, Counselor/PE, Art, PE/DL, and Music. Kindergarten Round up is March 26. If you have a child ready for Kindergarten next year, please plan to attend. Call the front office for more information.
