In PTR small groups, CONGRATULATIONS to groups 2 and 3. These two groups have worked so hard to master their vowels and are independently applying them when they spell, write, and read. So they are moving on to level 4. I have started giving the F&P reading tests. Since they are such good readers and I get to see how high they can go with fluency and comprehension, giving these tests will not be quick. These groups will then start guided reading groups! I am so proud of their hard work and effort!!
In Writing, we have been working on writing a nonfiction "How To" paper. Students had to chose something they do regularly figure out what supplies they need, what steps they need to do it in, and then write them out. Several have already turned it into a book which will be displayed on the hall bulletin board. This is not an easy writing assignment. But I do love how they stick with it and try! I love to see that they are remembering the sentences begin with capital letters and end with punctuation. I like how they are using transition words to help organize their thinking. Peer editing is also an important part of the process.
Next week, we don't have school on Monday and Tuesday. Our specials when we return will be: Music, Digital Learning, and Art. We check out books from the library. Several students haven't been returning books and so haven't been able to check out.
Don't forget, students need to wear their winter coats with hats, scarfs, and gloves. We go out in the morning and in the afternoon. Several times we have had friends that are wearing light jackets with no gloves or hats and then they are freezing. We go out unless the wind chill is below 21 degrees.
Have a fantastic four day weekend! Mrs. C!
